Summary:

Provide quality instruction in science covering a variety of topics that are grade appropriate and that align with State Standards and the school's curriculum.

Essential Duties:

Professional Responsibility

• Demonstrate sound professional teaching and classroom management skills to facilitate learning.
• Use oral and written language skills accurately and effectively.
• Maintain accurate records of student academic and behavioral progress, attendance, test scores and personal information.
• Carry out daily formal and informal assessments of student achievement.
• Integrate the assessments to design appropriate lesson planning and effective teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of student, family, and colleague information to be a role model of respectful behavior at all times.

Instruction/Curriculum

• Plan long-term as well as short-term objectives of instruction.
• Plan and present lessons to promote and supplement skills, concepts, and strategies introduced in the classroom.
• Perform integrated and trans-curriculum lesson planning in collaboration with student’s classroom teachers.

Teacher/Student Relationships

• Promote and achieve student involvement and initiative in making choices which affect learning and behavior.
• Maintain an appropriate and safe learning environment, and creates a classroom climate that facilitates learning.
• Provide students with adequate feedback about their work.
• Teache problem solving skills that lead to peaceful conflict resolution.
• Encourage students to strive for high achievement.
• Manage behavior problems on an individual basis.
• Help students develop positive self-concepts.
• Maintain excellent communications with parents throughout the school year.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• BA/BS from accredited college or university
• Valid Colorado License endorsed in area of assignment - Secondary Science or have passed the PLACE or PRAXIS II test in Science or take either test within 90 days and pass.
